Pandit Arvind Parikh will then be in conversation with celebrated tabla and sitar maestro Pandit Nayan Ghosh.

About the artist



Pandit Arvind Parikh – the senior-most disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan – is ranked amongst the top ranking sitar players of India. Having received talim from the legendary Ustad for 60 years, he is a unique product of the Imdadkhani – Etawah Gharana – sometimes called the Vilayatkhani Gharana. 


Born in Ahmedabad on October 19, 1927, Pt. Parikh - as a mentor and guru has a number of illustrious disciples. He has many recording to his credit. He is a ‘Top’ grade artiste and a regular broadcaster of All India Radio and Door Darshan. He has been featured at several major music festivals in India and has had very successful concert tours in several parts of Europe, West Asia, Far East and Australia.


He has the distinction of authoring two interesting books called “The Raga of My Life” and “The Glorious Tradition of Etawah-Imdadkhani Gharana – The Greats of Seven Generations”.


As a musicologist, teacher and cultural ambassador, Pt. Parikh has participated effectively in successfully heading cultural institutions like Music Forum, Indian Musicological Society (IMS) etc. He achieved high status in the music world being a Trustee of ITC-SRA from its inception and being a co-ordinator of All India Musicians’ Group (AIMG). 


His appointment as a Vice-President of International Music Council (UNESCO) for the period 1994-97 is indicative of the respect that Pt. Parikh commands all over the world. 


For his contribution to music, Pt. Parikh has been honored with the Gaurav Puraskar of Gujarat for 1998, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Instrumental music (sitar) for the year 2003 and the Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Samman of Madhya Pradesh in the year 2012. He has been also awarded Academy Ratna (Fellowship) by Sangeet Natak Academy for the year 2016. Recently he has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan Award.




Pandit Nayan Ghosh hardly needs an introduction to music lovers of India and around the world.


One of the most distinguished musicians of our times, he stands unique in the music world for being the only artiste with superlative command on two diverse instruments – the Tabla and the Sitar – the only one of his kind in India.


The maestro is held in high esteem for his innate artistry, rich repertoire, tonal brilliance and suave musicianship. He is already regarded as an important reference source for today’s younger musicians.


A recipient of the prestigious national award for the performing arts by the Govt of India, the SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI AWARD -2014 for Tabla, at the hands of Hon’ble President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, at New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan, he is widely acknowledged as a brilliant soloist and a refined accompanist, and is considered one of the foremost repositories of the priceless works of the Farukhabad, Delhi, Ajraada and Lucknow styles.
